Enhancing mood in video

One of the most important things in video is to ensure each shot is coloured correctly.

Every type of light has a colour temperature; and our eyes are incredibly adept at adjusting to this, as we move from inside to outside, or from one room to another. Cameras, on the other hand, require a little assistance.

Here is a normal shot of a lounge room, coloured neutrally with just a hint of yellow for warmth…

Now look what happens to the same lounge room, when blue is added, and the blacks are crushed…

Not so inviting is it? The below video also goes into the effect of music, and gives examples.

Hopefully this explains why you get a ‘feeling’ when you watch a video, based on the sights, sounds, and light/colour selection. If you’d like to work with a professional video production company who has a full grasp on how to create mood and feeling through video, we are happy to hear from you and discuss your next video marketing project.
